E-Discussion on Disability and Economic Opportunities. June 25-27
[Last updated Tuesday, June 26, 2007]
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Disability Team and the Microenterprise Development office will be hosting an online discussion on the topic of Disability and Economic Opportunities that will take place on June 25-27. This forum will be conducted through MicroLINK’s Speakers Corner which was designed to improve the impact of USAID-funded microenterprise programs and activities and allow for professionals and experts working in the area of economic opportunities to change ideas and share experience.
The upcoming event marks the first time that the topic of disability and breaking down barriers to inclusion will be discussed on MicroLINKS. This free virtual event is open to the public, and representatives of the disability community from around the world are strongly encouraged to subscribe and to share their opinions and experiences related to this issue. The three-day discussion will focus on identifying barriers to inclusion, looking at best practices for inclusive economic programs, and providing future recommendations that could be used by both Disabled Persons Organizations (DPOs) and the microenterprise and microfinance community to ensure equal access to programs. While the event will be moderated during Eastern Standard (EST) working hours, individuals from around the world are encouraged to participate and post comments.
Maria Reina from the Burton Blatt Institute and Evelyn Stark from The Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) will moderate this discussion on how to improve inclusion of people with disabilities in economic strengthening programs and services.
