NewsNew prize on special needs education[Last updated Monday, June 13, 2005]
UNESCO and the Emir of Kuwait have launched a new biannual prize to recognize achievement in improving special needs education for children with mental disability, based on an agreement reached in 2002. The prize, to be presented for the first time in October 2005, rewards individuals, groups, organizations or specialized centres that have contributed outstanding research or training in this field. This year, two laureates, one from an Arab and one from a non-Arab country, will each receive a certificate and $20,000. Inclusion International received a substantial number of submissions from members and non-members. Inclusion International carefully reviewed all the submissions and decided to submit a nomination from South Africa as Inclusion International’s nomination to UNESCO. Contact: Kenneth Eklindh, UNESCO
