Inclusion International held a ground breaking workshop on Poverty and Disability in Hammamet, Tunisia December 7-10, 2005.

The successful event brought together policy makers, members of government, organizations of people with disabilities and their families, representatives from multi-lateral institutions parents and people with disabilities from over 25 different countries. Facilitators of the various sub regions engaged families in focus group studies and collected the voices of people with disabilities living in poverty in the region. Twelve countries presented reports on the status of poverty and disability in their country, including Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Bahrain, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, UAE, and Libya.

The conference is the fourth event in a three-year initiative of Inclusion International supported by NFU to draw global attention to the conditions of poverty and their impact of the lives of people with have a disability and their families around the world. The findings from the reports and conferences will culminate in a global status report on poverty and disability which will be released at Inclusion International’s World Congress in Mexico in November 2006.
